After visiting the chimps, we ducked into the indoor exhibit to see the baby orangutan. Of course, he's almost two so he's not really a baby anymore, but he's still small enough that we enjoy seeing him. He's also a little ham and loves having attention from visitors. I think that's part of what makes visiting the zoo so fun... having the animals interact with you while you're standing there.
Here's the little spunk:
(Please forgive the grain in the photos... shooting indoors, through glass. Not the best conditions.)
We think this orangutan is a female:
She just sat there and looked at my girls while they talked to her for a very long time. I was busy taking pictures of the youngster interacting with this older ape:
After the apes, we wander around the zoo to the Australian Outback (which was fairly empty because most of the animals are off exhibit in January), past the hippos and into the African lion area. It was there that I realized that Chesney truly was sick. She had complained of a sore throat before we left but I shrugged it off when she was up and ready to go as we were leaving. I went to take a portrait of her near the lions and realized how pale she looked.
Sigh.
So our trip to the zoo was cut short by the onset of the flu. We quickly left after that, grabbing lunch and groceries on the way home. Ches stayed in bed the rest of the weekend.
I did manage to take one very cute portrait of Kiah before we left:
She's so darn pretty. Sigh.
