Last night, I only had two children at home.
My middle child was at a forensics tournament. She chose to once again do oration for her main event. It's not an easy event, but it suits her.
Just in case you're not sure what Oration is, here's a little description I'm borrowing from Wikipedia:
Though the rules for the category change from organization to organization, generally, an Oratory must be written and memorized by the performer and should be no more than ten minutes in length. No more than 150 words can be quoted. The finished speech must be approved by the National Forensic League. This speech is frequently highly persuasive and is normally about a slightly controversial topic.
Mykiah worked on her speech. I proofread. She worked on the staging. I critiqued. It was amazing on Wednesday to sit and listen to her speak.
I can write. My girl can speak. She feels, she conveys. It's an honor to be her mother.
So Thursday before I even left work, the text updates started. I got weather updates, bus ride updates... and then the first round update.
She thought she did great.
And then the second round. She knew she did great.
Then she broke finals. She performed again.
And we waited. And waited. I have very few fingernails at this point.
And then Dan got a text.
Dan.
And he turned and told me she got first place.
My girl is amazing. So well deserved. Even if she did text her father first.
Here's a photo from yesterday morning. She went casual/sloppy for school (which wasn't very sloppy if you ask me)...
