I've been doing Ali Edwards' One Little Word for a few years now. It's better than a resolution because it's not a goal. It's just a word to remember. To ground me.
I can't remember what they've been in the past. I could probably go through the blog archives and find them. Last year's was move. I did OK with it. Not as good as I wanted to do, but I moved.
And for the record, I plan to keep moving this year. I have decided that movement, exercise... it's essential for my good mental health. So no skipping the workout. That treadmill will not just hold drying sweaters. It will be used. If I have to tell Mykiah to nag me, I will. It's necessary.
But my word for this year, it's different. It's not a goal. It's what I want to find.
Yes, we're doing the whole Disney and Harry Potter thing for vacation this year. Maybe that got me thinking... I want magic every day. I teach children. I can find magic. I can treasure magic. I can make magic. For my family. For my students.
It's finding magic in the way Chesney treasures her new dolls.
Magic in watching Mykiah come home with straight A's. Always. Consistently.
Magic in helping my son choose a college.
Magic in creating layouts, taking pictures, preserving memories.
So there's my word.
Hold me to it.
