You know what you should do the morning after you have a funeral in a bar? Go see a show that showcases percussion.
Yup, that's exactly what I was thinking, so that's what we did.
Actually, we had been driving down the strip earlier in the week and saw that the new show Buckets N Boards had a special going on their family pass. Dan and the kids thought it might be a fun show, so I invited my friends to join us.
Walking in, I don't think any of us expected to really enjoy the show. We're all more accustomed to walking into a new show and coming out slightly disappointed in it. Either they've got tracks playing to boost the vocals, or they haven't changed their show in years, or the show is just obviously targeted at our parents' generation. Even the shows we love have those issues. So we went in with pretty low expectations.
And were blown away.
It was the funniest show I've ever seen in Branson. So much talent -- from percussion to tap dancing to singing. They were clearly having a great time up there, and darned if we weren't having a great time back in the fifth row.
Hey, I'm not too proud to say that I didn't have any expectations for the show. And I'm happy to say that it's now in my top two shows in Branson. I enjoyed it that much. We all see multiple Branson shows in a week (Rose and Jason see about one a week) and I think we'd all put it among our favorites. These guys made me laugh, and there's so much to be said about a good belly laugh.
After the show, we all went to lunch at Shorty Small's so we could talk about how much we loved the show. While we were there, The Cat's Pajamas came in to eat with their new lead singers (btw, that's the other show in my top 2 -- Cat's Pajamas). It was one of those "maybe I'm a bit starstruck" moments for me. I had Rose take a picture. I'm such a Branson show nerd.
After our lunch, in full midday sun, we went to this little field of wildflowers I'd seen growing behind Shorty Smalls and I did a quick photo shoot with the girls. Not quite the lighting I wanted, but the pictures are pretty awesome anyway.
until next trip.... Kim
