rounding the bend

Yesterday I finally broke down and went to the doctor. Despite the fact that I have no voice, spend an hour a day just blowing my nose, and cough uncontrollably, I had resisted because I knew it was a virus. In fact, the doctor herself had told me it was influenza a week ago when I took Brady in (he had strep).

However, 2 weeks is just a little too much coughing for me. The doctor agreed. She said she was treating me for bronchitis and a sinus infection.

That works. Give me the drugs.

I'm taking an antibiotic and got some of that wonderful cough syrup with codeine.

Only problem is that it didn't work last night. I ended up taking a bit more recommended dose just so I could get to sleep. Then I slept. And slept and slept. I'm pretty sure I'm still asleep.

But getting better. Finally.

Looking forward to a weekend with my sister and her family. Shopping. Spending time outdoors. Talking with a normal voice and not sounding like a man. And hopefully having fun pictures to post on Monday.

Have a blessed weekend.

a true sign

Today, while leaving work, I heard the musical notes. I looked. It was the ice cream man!

You just know spring is coming when the ice cream man starts making the rounds.

So yesterday, my girls were watching Hannah Montana with Joey Fatone. They asked me if he really was a professional baseball player.

This led me to YouTube, where I introduced them to the awesomeness that was NSync. And then, of course, I had to show them the legends of boy band-dom.

And they're having a reunion. Is that not the coolest thing ever?

For my sister, Donnie is eye candy this week. Personally, I went for Johnathan. He was just my kind of guy. But she likes Donnie, and honestly, he was pretty hot.

Enjoy.

things I love

So I had thought I would do a "things I love" post and tell you about all the stuff I'm really loving at the moment.

Except the truth of it is that for the last two weeks, I've pretty much been an invalid. I've been going to work and everything, but when I'm not "on duty" I've been sticking pretty close to home and my bed. The local grocery store appreciates me.

So I've got all of one thing to share.

Fbcs_cobb
Quizno's classic Cobb salad. Man, I love this thing. So much flavor -- bleu cheese crumbles, hard boiled egg, grilled chicken, bacon... the only thing it needs is a bit of avocado. Dan even likes this.

After my surgery, the nurse said I could start eating again, just not to eat anything greasy. I was doped up on Lortab, I was walking around with an ice pack tied across my chest, and yet I stopped to get one of these salads. It was good. Really good.

But how's this for a segue?

I haven't had one of these salads since my surgery because I've been sick and sticking pretty close to home. Dan keeps talking about wanting one. I keep telling him he can have one in Branson. Cuz that's where we'll be 3 weeks from now. It seems our January and February have been long and dark. The light at the end of our tunnel is our Spring Break trip to Branson.

I cannot wait. We don't have any reservations made for shows, which is totally unlike us. We don't even have a good budget, which is really unlike Dan. But we're going. The shows will be there and they'll have seats for us. It's going to be a great time, just to get away from here and refresh and renew. We're ready.

totally sucked in

Lost_logoA side effect of the past six weeks is that I have totally gotten sucked into "Lost." You see, I started watching the premiere with Dan, but then gave up. Decided it wasn't quite my thing (and I really don't watch much TV). Then came the day that the only working TV was in our room and I wasn't feeling well. That was a few weeks ago. I was forced to watch the new season of Lost.

And now I'm addicted. I discovered on Saturday that you can watch old episodes on your computer through the abc.com website. I spent a big part of this weekend laying in bed or on the sofa, with my new Bose ear buds stuck in the laptop, watching the first six or seven episodes of the series.

It's going to take me a long time to catch up.

By the way, Bose ear buds rock. They are the best gift I have gotten in a long time. Thank you to Dan's employer for offering them as a prize. Nothing like listening to a TV show -- or the Haygoods -- through those things.

In the last six weeks

  • Mykiah and Dan have had severe stomach flu
  • Mykiah has had braces put on her top teeth
  • Brady has been diagnosed with strep throat
  • Mykiah has had 4 teeth pulled
  • I have had a breat biopsy, which was thankfully negative
  • We had had 3 rooms of our house quarantined for water damage
  • I have influenza, the biggest irritation of which is a severe cough and no voice
  • We have replaced the tub and shower in our 2nd bathroom
  • Brady's room has been recarpeted
  • Our 2nd bathroom and Brady's room have been repainted
  • I have had a mammogram and sonogram on my breast
  • We put 4 new tires on our minivan
  • I have been put on medication for high blood pressure
  • Chesney turned eight
  • We celebrated Valentine's Day
  • Dan won $100 at his awards weekend, and an iPod
  • and now Mykiah is running a 102.1 degree temp, which means she probably has strep too

Been quite the month for us, huh? Looking forward to sunny skies and brighter days ahead.

P.S. I can't believe I forgot the one that started this whole thing --

  • our water heater leaked
  • we have a new water heater (after having it pulled and reinstalled 3 times) and it still doesn't even have enough hot water for me to take a decent bath, but it works fine otherwise

apologies

I know that my blog has just been the most depressing thing ever for the last month or so. But I'm out with a severe cold -- no voice and just feel about as awful as a girl can feel. On Tuesday night, I slept a solid 12 hours (helped by NyQuil) and I still don't feel better. Can't eat, can't talk... I'm a mess. I promise to get back into a good, entertaining place soon. Really. Stick with me.

been awhile

Haven't shared a video in a bit. Tim posted this video the other day, sort of on my request, and I totally love it. The trick is to let the video load completely, then pull the slider over and start watching at about the 2 minute mark. This is Chesney's favorite song and watching it performed... well, it's just very cool.

I'm a little silent today. I've totally lost my voice due to a severe cold. So enjoy the video while I try to heal. Have a happy Wednesday!

P.S. Since I haven't changed eye candy in a couple of weeks, I put Dominic up there. I'm totally loving him in this video!

late v-day pics

Last week was one of our craziest yet... Dan had stomach flu, I had surgery, our house was being rebuilt. Thankfully, I am always prepared. Gifts for the girls had been put away since before Christmas and we picked up Brady's last weekend while we were having our awards weekend. I didn't buy Dan anything. He didn't want anything and in fact would have been ticked if I had spent the money. So he got a $4 card. If I'd bought him a gift, he would have got a $1 card. So I splurged.

However, I am not so self-sacrificing. Dan stopped on his way home from work and picked up 2 dozen of these for me....

The man knows me. Don't send me any flowers that the cats will eat, and while jewelry is sweet, I do like to choose my own. You just can't go wrong giving me cookies. And these were so yummy. I shared, and was still eating them on Sunday. Still good, too.

And here's the kids. Webkinz for the girls, and basketball cards for Brady.

one room down...

And two to go.

This weekend we finished the kids' bathroom. And that, my friends, is a huge relief.

Just to set the scene... for 3 weeks, this was our living room. The room you can see through the studs is the kids' bathroom. If I been able to get on floor level, you would be able to see all the way through to Brady's room. This was the containment area for the water damage. After the big plastic bubble came down, the top half of the sheetrock had to come down before anything could go back up.

But eventually back up it went. Dan spent Saturday priming and painting. And this is what the kids have now:

Dscf6881The walls are just a shade darker than bright yellow, and behind the shower curtain is a brand new tub and shower surround. I'm a bit jealous about the whole thing.

Mykiah spent the day arranging all the girls' Bath and Body Works essentials, hair supplies and other girly bathroom essentials. And today, I'll spend my day spreading back out and enjoying my bathroom.

We also have Brady's room painted and the curtain hung. Funny how a silly thing like a curtain drove me crazy. I hated not having a curtain over that window for weeks on end. Now we wait for carpet, and since we're waiting for the same people who took 4 weeks to get our house cleared for rebuilding (which took only one week), I'm afraid we may be waiting awhile. And while I know you're thinking, "I'd call them up and give them a piece of my mind," I've done that. I even got a guy fired. But I'm just tired, and not in the mood to argue. I'll call once a day about the carpet, but I'm not going to get angry. It will get done at some point, and then it will really be done. All we need to do now is carpet and return Brady's stuff to his room. We're so close to being done I just can't find the energy to get angry.
