Birthday trip, Saturday
OK, I'm going to try to finish this up all in one big shebang.
Woke up on Saturday morning because Dan had forgotten to check the alarm clock. It was set for 6:18 am.
Then Dan couldn't figure out how to turn off the alarm (because it was oh-so-complicated to slide that little bar over), so he just hit the snooze.
So I woke up again at 6:28 am. Lovely, huh?
Went down to breakfast at 7 am. I just hate that hotel breakfasts are a giant carb buffet. I'm a protein eater in the mornings (Slimfast High Protein bars), and the doughnuts/waffles/bagels/so on just make my stomach turn. I should have just brought my Slimfast with me. Dan had a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit. It was one of the microwave kind you can pick up at a convenience store. I thought it was a nice addition to your typical hotel breakfast.
Went up and got ready for the day. Our plan was to go see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix over at the Imax theaters this morning. We arrived and I asked how long the movie was. It would end about 45 minutes before our 2 pm show. Normally I'd not worry about that because the theater wasn't far from the Imax, but it's July and traffic was awful. Dan was really hesitant about it. We finally decided to go simply because we couldn't think of anything else to do. He pulled the van around to the door closest to the movie theater so that we could make a quick exit, and by the time we had decided and gotten the vehicle situated, it was time to enter the theater.
We have some great movie theaters here at home, but I really love the Elite Cinemas in Branson. Stadium seating, and the chairs recline a bit. I could have taken a nap. But soon Harry was starting, and dang, that Daniel Radcliffe is growing up just fine, isn't he? Order of the Phoenix is one of my least favorite of the books, but I enjoyed the movie.
It's over, we jump in the van, take the back way around to the strip, crawl until we get to the Hughes Brothers theater. Get out and head straight for the concessions. Two Dr. Peppers, a bag of cashews and a small popcorn later, we're in our seats in time for me to make a little conversation with my seat mate. She was a very nice older lady, who was staying down at the Branson Landing in the hotel there. I'd love to stay there, so it was interesting to hear about her experiences.
In turn, I told her we'd seen this show in March and really loved it. Then she asks me if we'd ever seen "that Haygoods show" and whether we liked it.
Yeah, Dan spit out his pop when she asked that. I assure her that yes, we have seen it and I think it's a great show. I definitely recommend it. Meanwhile Dan is poking me. Dude, I can give an impartial review. She just wanted to know if it was good, and since it's your favorite show too, I think I'm safe in saying, yes, it's good.
About then, the show starts and since I've already reviewed Six in March, I'll just say we enjoyed it just as much this trip as we did in March. Maybe more. Actually, I'm sure Dan enjoyed it more because this time, we were in the 9th row instead of up front, where the guys were flirting with me and making Dan feel all kinds of uncomfortable.
Oh, and I took some awesome photos of the guys that I have to share.
We really like this show and will definitely be back again. Hoping they change up the show for next season, too. I love what they do, but I'm also ready for something new, ya know?
Oh, and I bought a shirt here. Um, actually I bought one the night before at Pierce Arrow, too. The Haygoods seriously need to get on the t-shirt bandwagon. I love my Six shirt. It's pink with their logo in glitter. Very girly. Just perfect. Not that I didn't already have a Six shirt, cuz my mom gave me one for my birthday, but it has their signatures on it, so that's really more of a collectible, don't ya think?
By this time, we were really hungry. It was after 4 pm and if you're paying attention... we've had a small breakfast at the hotel, I had cashews at Six and Dan had popcorn. On top of the hunger, I was fighting a pretty strong headache at this time. Probably a migraine. I have a high threshold for pain, and can keep right on chugging along with a migraine most of the time. Maybe one or two days a year that I'm in bed with one. Most of the time, I just fight through it. I didn't have any medications with me while we were seeing shows, and even back in the hotel room, all I had was Advil. No sleep, not eating meals on time, not drinking the same amount of caffeine that my body needs, drinking aspartame... it was all catching up to me.
Dan really wanted to eat at the American Bandstand grill and I'm thinking that I've been spoiled rotten this trip, so I agree. I had iced tea here, even though it was way too late in the day for me to be drinking caffeine. It really helped with the headache and I managed to enjoy the rest of the meal. We had a great waiter, who I overtipped. He was speedy, and even tried to help me convince Dan that we needed to come back to the AB that evening to enjoy some live music.
As we left the restaurant, there was a storm starting to brew. I thought if we were lucky, we might make it back to our hotel before the deluge, but even our back route to our hotel was crowded. Took us a good 15-20 minutes to get to the hotel and in that time, it poured buckets. We ran in, and I knew there was no saving my shirt for that evening. I was soaked.
By now, the headache was back. If I hadn't already picked up my tickets for that evening, I probably would have stayed in. Instead, I curled up on the bed and turned on CSI. Dan was very nice and let me lay there listening to it until I felt better. Not great, but better. We watched until 7 pm, then decided it was time to get going for our last show of the trip.
