My mom had nothing to write about so I'm writing for her. This will probably be short because I don't have a lot to write.
Lately, Kansas weather has been very unusual. We've had 6 snow days in the last 54 days. Following the latest, the next day temperature was 70 degrees. Now it's in the 30's again.
Hayden learned to climb dog steps. He's only done it once so far, and even then I don't know if forcefully dragging him up counts as climbing.
Mykiah read me some forensics speech all the way home from school. Her teacher edited it for her because she is one of her favorite students.
I think we're having sloppy joes for dinner. Of course, by the time you read this it will have been yesterday.
Well, that's pretty much it. I know that you will be extremely entertained by this fulfilling content.
Yeah, it's Wednesday. Too much going on, and not enough blog posts. Here's my latest.
1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Mykiah asked me to order this from a Scholastic book order. She read it, then said, "Mom, why don't you read this?" So I picked it up. Didn't put it down until I was finished. Then snagged the second book in the trilogy from her, before she had gotten past Chapter 1. Now I have to wait until next August for the final book?!? I don't think it's possible. The Hunger Games is set in a post-rebellion North America, and the basic plot is that every year, 2 teens from each "district" are sent to play a survival game in the Capitol. The only way to win is to kill all the other competitors. It's action packed and gripping. Being made into a movie, too. It'll be an amazing movie.
I'd make one this year but I can't find the right colors of buttons. I also think I've used up my crafty supply for 2009. It's at the top of the list for next Christmas, though.
6. Dark Chocolate Reese's
Just one word: Yum.
7. Weekend Jeans from Old Navy.
These are all Kellie's fault. At least I think it's Kellie's fault. Someone on the SSD message board was talking about them, and I decided to try them. I could live in them. Would, except I have to work and the distressing makes them not quite appropriate for work. I ordered 2 pair initially, then two more when they were on sale for $15/pair Black Friday.
8. Jakob.
I usually root for the underdog in any competition (I'm Team Jacob when it comes to Twilight, even though I know how it all ends), but I am loving Jakob on So You Think You Can Dance. He moves my soul, just watching him dance.
9. Diet Cherry Limeade. Sonic Happy Hour.
10. Toy Boy. He's going to go zooming around the big wide world soon. Zooming and zooming.
Know what? Sometimes a girl just needs to read a straight up, happily ever romance. Nobody does that better than Nora Roberts. I read the first in this series this summer while we were on vacation, and I could not wait to read the second book. In fact, I had ordered it from my book club and when my mail carrier messed around too long and didn't deliver it, I bought it at Walmart. So I actually have two copies. Given my tendency to lose books, it's probably not a bad idea.
2. Rudolph, the Red Nose Reindeer
Hey, just cuz a guy has a red nose, does that mean people need to make fun of him? Love that he saves the day.
If you know me, you might know that I'm not exactly an organized religion kind of person. However, this song speaks to me. Deeply.
4. Chilis Nachos
My favorite food. Right now, if I could eat anywhere and anything, this is what I'd want.
5. Smarties
One of my favorite candies. Right now, my coteacher has some in a bag to give kids when they deserve a treat. I keep eating them. I should probably refill, huh?
6. Etsy
I am buying a lot of handmade for this holiday. Some of my favorite sellers:
My sister got me addicted a couple of summers ago. We watch it all the time, and even though I sometimes make fun of it -- "If you like these angles, we'll lock 'em down" -- it always invites thoughtful conversation.
9. Kawaii Disney stuff. Try typing the two words into flickr and see what you get.
I started watching this show on my birthday this summer and I'm completely and totally hooked. He's just such a compelling person, with absolutely no emotion, and yet he manages to make me care about him.
2. Pioneer Woman Cooks Cookbook
I've been reading Ree's blog for about a year, and preordered her cookbook just as soon as I could. I also bought my mom a copy for her birthday. We like it, we really like it. Not sure I'll ever cook anything out of it, but it sure is a gorgeous, fun read.
3. One of my classic favorite songs. My sister bought me this CD a very long time ago for my birthday, and I must have worn this song out.
4. December Daily
I've never been the best about keeping up with daily scrapbook projects (i.e. Project 365 is collecting dust), but I really want to make this one work. It's the inspiration of Ali Edwards, and my album is ready to go. I'll share it more in December, but I'm really hoping to complete this album this year.
5. The Yeti
Destination Truth may be close to actually finding one. I like mine a little more... cute.
I love the word art. Especially "my friends live in the computer." Like these friends:
7. Indian Summer.
The weather here has been gorgeous for the last two weeks. I love it. Not hot enough to make me sweat, but warm enough that I want to be outside all the time.
Just plain. Maybe a slice of lemon. No sugar. No, no, no, no, NO sugar. Putting sugar in it takes it out of the drink category and into the dessert category.
9. Sesame Street
Some of my first memories were of Sesame Street. I loved that show, and still do. Happy Birthday, Sesame Street!
I just can't even put into words how much I love my flip flops. One of my favorite things about Indian Summer is that I haven't yet had to stop wearing my flip flops. Teva Mush are my favorite favorite, and I hate plastic straps, but I'll pretty much wear anything with cloth straps on them.
1. Mechanical Pencils. The only way I will write with a pencil, and I only write in my calendars with pencils. I buy a couple I love, and hide them from my kids.
2. This color combination. I am so attracted to aqua and red together...
3. Lady Antebellum. In particular, this song, but I pretty much love all their harmonies. I have the entire album, and that says a lot for me. It's a rare day when I'll buy a whole CD from one artist.
5. Jonathan Kellerman. Read his latest book 2 weeks ago. One of my coworkers recommended Mr. Kellerman to me back when I was pregnant with Brady. At the time, he probably had a half dozen Alex Delaware books out. Now he has closer to 2 dozen, and I own them all. Not just have read them all, I own them all. I love Alex and Robin and Milo, and the mysteries are always good, too.
6. Destination Truth. My Wednesday night guilty pleasure. Not only does Josh flat out make me laugh, the cases he investigates have given me some serious goonies, too. That doll island has sworn me off plastic dolls for awhile.
7. Pierre by Maurice Sendak. While I love Where The Wild Things Are, my favorite Maurice Sendak book has always been Pierre. I remember listening to it as a child and getting this sinking feeling in my gut, "Don't do it, Pierre!" Now I teach a couple of little Pierre's. I still have this need to save a little boy from getting himself into trouble, and my gut still knots when I can't do it.
8. Tootsie Rolls. Perfect for that hit of chocolate when you don't want the calories.
9. Microfiber Blankets. I have a small one just to cover my feet... when I'm sitting in my chair, watching TV, typing on my laptop. Can't have cold feet, now can we?
1. Pepsi One... can't imagine starting my day any other way
2. Glee. Really? Is there a funner show out there? It's not realistic, but it sure is fun.
3. John Sandford's Rough Country. I *love* John Sandford and devour his books. This is his latest, and it's also a Virgil Flowers' book. I do love Virgil. I read it in an afternoon.
4. Bic Blue Pens. The classic. I love them, and always have a few in my purse and by my bed for any writing emergency.
5. Sweet Tarts. I had to buy them for Halloween candy. I don't anticipate having many knocks on our door, and of course, we'll have to eat the leftovers. If I'm going to be eating leftover candy, it's going to be Sweet Tarts.
6. This song. Always and forever my favorite song. Makes me boogie in the grocery store aisles.
7. Puffs Plus. Because, really, my nose deserves the pampering.
8. Sock Monkeys. Especially striped ones like these I found here.
3. This shower curtain, which I've had for several weeks and can't decide what to do with it because I love it so much.
4. LOST... counting the days until the final season begins
5. Chile Relleno... the best Mexican dish ever
6. Cabbage Patch Kids. I still have the one I got in 1983, and I still love them.
7. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Saw this in 3D this weekend (on a total whim) and loved the story. At the same time I loved that they didn't try to replicate the book, which is also one of my favorites.
8. This fabric by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake. I don't sew, but I want to make something with this so badly. The colors would be perfect with my holiday decor.
9. Little Miss Matched. When we were in California, their temporary store had just opened and the girls and I went crazy. Now the permanent store is open, and I'm thinking I'd sure like to visit it. Actually, I'm thinking how much I loved California, but seeing the photos of the new store might have set me on that path.
10. My bed. My favorite part of the day is bed time.
